Size Matters: The biggest mistake marketing and sales people make.

We have recently completed a back audit of past sales and list deliveries and I want to test a few assumptions. Also, we’re offering 100 bucks off your next list for completing the survey below.

If what we have found remains true then there are some very strong rules for using our lists successfully. In other words, we can’t always guarantee success but we can predict failure. Furthermore, you will not even know why!

Unless you consider this:

In the last 2 years only one type of lead has earned repeat business with under 5000 contacts (we have more than 100 types).

We suspect this is for two reasons. For one, all of these and other successes seem to be experts with marketing agencies or large call centers. The small lists mentioned above are a narrowly targeted demographic requiring experts to carefully tease and nurture their prospects. Mostly, automated or mass marketing such as email, call centers and RVM will only work with very large numbers.

Large Numbers don’t lie…

The second reason is statistical science. 5000 is the lowest number you can use to predict scale-able outcomes. That is because it takes that many leads to overcome the margin of error or confidence interval. Basically, you could just multiply the numbers to get expected results on the next list. Conversely, if you cut the list in half or quarters there is no guarantee the conversions would be perfectly split as well.

Flatly, we know this: Size matters! Large numbers of leads will scale with predictable results and are more likely to improve your business. Also, the smaller the list, the lesser chance of making a profit and forwarding your successes.

It really strikes hard when you consider 99% of our clients that bought more than two lists have averaged over 2 million rows for each list.
